See You Again Grandpa

April 5th my grandpa, Vern James, passed away. He was a very happy person. When I did get to see him, he always made me laugh with his funny phrases and great sense of humor. It's sad to realize, in this lifetime at least, I'm out of time to better get to know him.

It was also tough to see my dad grieve. He's typically not an emotional man, so it's rare to see any tears from him. I suppose in an unexpected way, events like these can often bring the rest of the family closer together, as we are reminded how precious life is. After all, death often comes unexpectedly. My grandpa laid down to take a nap after spending a nice day out and about, and just never woke up. It was a blessing for him to go so peacefully, but is a little rough on everyone else who didn't have the chance to say goodbye.

Grandkids with Grandma

Off to Utah I went to spend a week with family, minus my hubby who is currently a slave an investment banker. It was really tough to see my Grandma weep over my Grandpa's casket as she said her goodbyes before we left his body to be lowered into the ground. I'm sure, like the rest of us, she thought my Grandpa had at least another 10 healthy years to go. Hearing her whisper "Why'd you have to leave me?" was incredibly sad.

On a positive note, my family was gathered together. We were able to share and hear stories, as we reminisced and celebrated his life.

My family with both Grandmas - Grandma Bawden was sweet to drive up to Logan with Tyson (brave too!)

Shawn got particularly close to Grandpa this past year as he's been in Logan for his freshman year at Utah State, and enjoyed having Sunday dinners with my grandparents.

So grateful for my family.
